What kind of snake is brown with black diamonds/spots?

Found a baby snake in our kitchen! It was brown with black diamond/spots running down either side of the body. It's head looked darker and had a black ring around its neck. The underbelly was grayish. It was definitely a baby and is hard to get a good look at the eyes. They looked black. Couldn't tell anything about the pupils. We live in Southeastern US.

If so, not a baby, there are many species of snake that never get over a foot or so long.

Here is why it is NOT an Eastern Diamondback...

"black diamond/spots running down either side of the body"

"black ring around the neck"

Either the asker does not have an eastern diamondback or is horrible at describing something that was right in front of them.

Dekay's are not classed as a venomous species. They may have a slightly toxic saliva due to their dietary preferences, but nothing for me or you to worry about.

Also, eastern diamondbacks start out between 12 and about 15 inches... not what most people would consider a "baby" snake...
