Investing In Precious Metal - Silver Coins and Bars by mhoman
If your like me, you can not afford to buy gold, nor 100 troy ounce bars. You may not have much money to invest in anything for that matter. That is why I thought I would write about the poorer persons precious metal, silver.
Silver is a precious metal, but does not cost any where near what gold does. Silver is used for plating, and used for jewelry, among other things. Silver has been used for thousands of years by many civilizations as a form of trade, and wealth. So you could say, silver is not going to go away anytime soon.
Many people do not know of their options when it comes to buying silver. Many individuals do not even consider buying silver because they do not think it is a good investment. And is it any wonder, with all of the advertisements today aimed at investing in gold?
The reason gold is so widely advertised is the price. If you had two products, one going for a high price and the other, not so much... which one would you concentrate on selling? Get the picture? The best time to invest in gold is when the price is low, then sell, if profits alone are your main focus, when the price hits an all time high.
You may be thinking, "Well then why should I invest in silver if its price is also up? Good question! As I said, gold and silver both have been used widely for many years as a means of trade. Both precious metals have always been worth something. In America we used to base our money on the gold and silver standard. So to make my point, we are now in trouble. Our economy, and the American dollar is not doing well.
By investing in silver, silver coins, or small sized silver bars you can safeguard some of your money in case of a economic crash. When your dollars become worthless, you will still have in your possession, physical precious metal that can be used as a means of trade or exchange for new money.
A safe investment would be in one ounce, .999 American Silver Eagles, 1/2 ounce, .999 Morgan Silver Dollars, or silver bars from 5 grams ($roughly $10), up to the larger sizes, like 10 troy ounces. Or you could stock up on silver rounds and junk silver. Junk silver is basically used, old silver coins. These junk coins are not worth as much for the collector, but you should be concerned only about securing some of your money in something other than money, not collecting for profit.
While collecting coins and silver for profit is good at times, this article is not addressing them now, only the fact of the declining dollar and the failing economy. There will be the so-called professionals out there that will tell you that what I am saying is bull, but do not fall for it. The professionals make money on hopes that you are uneducated, of that you trust them. They did not get rich by helping others, but helping themselves.
Do not go nuts on collecting silver if you can not afford to invest. The point I am trying to convey is not to go broke, but to invest wisely, and secure your wealth as you can.
