does the fact that most sharks skin is corrosive when rubbed in one direction have anything to do with the fact that they can grow endless replacements of teeth? what i mean by asking that is... is what makes up the skin what eventually moves forward and turns into teeth, or is it just a coincidence that sharks have both features?
also, i have heard that sharks can perform osmosis of some sort through their skin and turn the salt water into freshwater to regulate their hydration percentage. if they can do this then why cant a lab recreate this type of structure and turn ocean water potable? i know the body structure of any large animal is complex but all the pieces are right there. cant the shark be skinned and the hide be used as some sort of sifter? i know this sounds crazy.
also, i have also read that penguins have a duct above their eyes that turns ocean water to freshwater. if not for the sharks, can the penguins be used?
i cannot answer the part about the first part
as to the second part, I think you have a great misunderstanding about how marine animals get their water. they don't simply "turn" salt water into fresh water. and shark skin have no filtering functions what so ever. for animals like penguins and sea turtles, they drink sea water, absorb the water in it and excrete the unnecessary minerals out from those "ducts" you mentioned. for fish, their body have enough ion concentration for them to NOT loose water. you know how the flow of concentration works, right?
